What a good source font archive should look like

The free/libre-open font scene is still small and lacking common conventions. Fonts are quite often published under almost (but not quite) suitable licenses, and when the licensing is fixed the release files are still packager-hostile.

To remedy this problem and help authors release their work in a form that can be easily packaged, work is under way to create an authoritative font archive template.

Please point your upstreams to this template if they ask you how they should release their fonts.
