This is a straw-man wiki page for the hopefully-to-be Fedora Marketing Book Club. I (Robyn Bergeron) am dumping some of my thoughts here for the moment - feel free to add in your own ideas, and we'll see if we can make some sense out of things over the next month or so. I think it would be great to kick off with reading our first book in March 2010.

Feedback / Thoughts

  • Everyone gets a chance to lead. A list will go up on the wiki page - feel free to suggest a book that you think has been particularly valuable, and when it's your book's turn, drive the end discussion on what everyone got out of the book. --Rbergero 03:09, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
  • One book per month. Books are on your own dime, but that's okay, because books are good for you. We'll do our best to choose books that are likely available in your public library as well. (If you can't find it, and budget is an issue, let us know - we can work something out.) Let's also try to keep the book under the size of War and Peace - we want people to participate, and be able to read in their spare time, not be overwhelmed and stressed and in the end, not joining in. --Rbergero 03:09, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
  • This is not strictly for marketeers - but we want to avoid getting highly technical, so things like "how to write a device driver" are probably not best for this audience.
  • Separate mailing list? Not sure on this. I think if it gets to be overwhelmingly popular (one can hope!) it might be something to consider.

What we're doing

The Fedora Marketing Book Club is a group that picks one book a month - relating to open source, marketing, social media, PR, etc. - and has an IRC discussion at the end of the month about what we've learned from the book, and how we can apply the knowledge to making Fedora Marketing even better.

How to participate

Anyone can join in - you don't have to be in the Marketing group (although we sure would love it if you joined us!). We'll post book titles and discussion dates on this wiki page. Writing blog posts, emailing a review to the fedora-mktg list, or adding your thoughts to the wiki page for each book on what you learned would be great as well.

What we're reading

Month Book Date for IRC discussion
June 2010 The Starfish and the Spider
July 2010 The Wisdom of Crowds
