Revision as of 17:11, 3 December 2014

This is the main page for the 2015 Design Team FAD, which is a FAD (a mini-conference) focused on working on a roadmap for the Fedora Design Team over the next year or two.

  • Location: Red Hat's Westford Office at 314 Littleton Road, Westford Massachusetts USA
  • Date: January 16th - 18th 2015

Purpose / Agenda

We will meet starting Friday morning (~9 AM) and work until late afternoon each day; we will likely break a bit early on Sunday to allow for travellers to get to the airport.

Here the the high-level agenda items we'd like to cover over the 3 days:

Travel & Accomodation

Boston Logan International Airport (map), +1-800-23-LOGAN (56426), (IATA: BOS) is the main gateway to Boston and New England and around 40 miles from Westford.

The Westford Regency (tripadvisor) is around 20 minutes foot walk from RedHat offices (map), the rate is around 110$.

    • ryanlerch (local) Confirmed? (Y/N)
    • Emichan (local) Confirmed? (Y/N)
    • others?
  6. Other considerations
    • Westford is not very walkable. We could save on car rentals by booking everyone at the same hotel and having folks go together. Maybe one or two minivans instead of multiple smaller rentals. Mizmo is local but has a small car with a carseat so it will be hard for her to help on the transportation front; Ryan is local but does not have a car. Transportation from airport could be taxi or bus. (need more research)
      • Minivan rented on AVIS Boston Logan, from 16th-19th 597$ pay later, 477$ pay now, without taxes
      • Minivan rented on Budget Boston Logan, from 16th-19th 553$ pay later, 498$ pay now, without taxes, full size van is cheaper 372$ at the counter and 334$ pay now
    • Paul Frields will rent one minivan out of his budget. We may need to rent another based on timing of flights.

Logistics

Snacks/Beverages: Red Hat provides free snacks and beverages in the building kitchenettes.

Breakfast

Red Hat has an arrangement with the Westford Regency hotel to provide everyone free breakfast as part of your hotel booking. Each person staying at the Regency will receive breakfast meal tickets; when you wake in the morning you can use these tickets at the hotel restaurant breakfast service.

Lunch

We will have catered lunches with vegetarian and vegan options available. We will be covering the cost of lunch for attendees:

  • Friday: Chipotle Burritos (http://chipotle.com) Everyone can custom-order their own burrito. (~$100 for 12)
  • Saturday: Subway Sandwiches (http://subway.com) 15 full-size subs a mix of veggie, turkey, ham. (Note for Mo: chelmford location has free delivery for > $75) (Cost: ~$82)
  • Sunday: Panera Sandwiches (http://www.panerabread.com) ~$110, free delivery

Dinner / Social Event:

We can have a private room at Bamboo which is not far down the same road as the office. It is a nice upscale restaurant with a lot of options for everybody. Conservatively guesstimating $30/head for 13 people in-person plus 15% gratuity, we're at just under $450 for such an event.

Dinner options for other days: Exception Chipotle, anticipating $16/head for dinner. Chipotle will probably be closer to $10/head. Options include:

  • India Palace, Chelmsford Nice atmosphere, reasonable prices, good for large groups, quiet in evenings (Good for talking)
  • Bamboo, Westford Asian fusion, good atmosphere, room for large groups
  • Burton's Grill, Westford American. Haven't been. [Emichan: I have, it's tasty, but fairly pricey, and veggie options are basically pasta or salad.]
  • Karma, Westford Asian fusion, room for large groups (can reserve private room too), great sushi
  • Chipotle, Westford Cheap Mexican food, good, fresh, fast. In the evening, probably won't be too busy.
  • 99 Restaurant, Westford Walkable from office, across the street and down the hill, but food not so great. Few veggie options.
  • Thai Jasmine, Chelmsford Excellent Thai food, reasonable prices

If you want funding from Red Hat, ask the Community Architecture (old page) -- (new page) team. If you can find other ways to fund your FAD, that's great too!
