Feature Name

BrOffice.org Spin

Summary

Due to a brand layer introduced in OpenOffice.org 3.0, Fedora will have for the first time the BrOffice.org brand for the office suite. This spin is intended to be a Brazilian Portuguese localized spin that provides the legal brand for OpenOffice.org in Brazil. It will be based on Fedora Desktop Spin.

Detailed Description

Regarding bug #358021, the inclusion of BrOffice.org in Fedora is a important change for Brazilian users. We will have a legal supported trademark that replaces "OpenOffice.org". This allow us to create a spin focused on Desktop application and provide a standard .ks that can help Brazilians to build their own spins including BrOffice.org.

We have a potential local server provided by one of Brazilian Fedora Ambassadors to host spin binaries. Fedora Infrastructure don't need to worry about this. The correct use of Fedora brand is what we need the most here.

Benefit to Fedora

Red Hat Brasil helps local Ambassadors with LiveCDs and DVD medias. With BrOffice.org Spin, Red Hat Brasil will be able to print and distribute Fedora BrOffice.org LiveCDs to Ambassadors.

Prosecuting Counsel of Tocantins State uses Fedora and BrOffice, so will provide a spin which fit their needs. This will help the adoption of Fedora and BrOffice in many public departments.

ABNT, the Brazilian standardization agency, approved ODF as the standard format for documents. Those users who wants to try Fedora, BrOffice.org and ODF will have a LiveCD made for them.

Scope

OpenOffice.org brand layer is already in Rawhide. We need to build the spin and assure that there is no overlap between the traditional OpenOffice.org brand and BrOffice.org one. For instance, we don't want to have both OpenOffice.org Writer and BrOffice.org Writer in the spin, just the last one.

Test Plan

Should take care of Spin size. It must fit on a CD.

Periodically build the spin against Rawhide.

Test the LiveCD installation.

User Experience

Users will boot the LiveCD and see that applications with i18n support will be in Brazilian Portuguese by default and play with BrOffice.org nicely integrated with hunspell-pt.

Dependencies

We depend on openoffice.org-3.0.0 and hunspell.

Contingency Plan

Do not apply to this spin.

Documentation

Not needed. http://www.broffice.org/ has plenty documentation.

Release Notes

Since the spin has a very specific target audience, nothing needs to be added to Fedora Release Notes. The Fedora Project Brazil website at http://www.projetofedora.org/ will announce the spin availability.
