From their site -http://www.ws4gl.org/- WebcamStudio For GNU/Linux creates a virtual webcam that can mix several video sources together and can be used for live broadcasting over Bambuser, UStream or Stickam. On this virtual webcam, you can broadcast your desktop, your webcam, a movie, some text, IRC channels, RSS Feed, animations, images or all of them at the same time.

Benefit to Fedora

Because this program creates a virtual webcam that can mix several video sources together, users will be able to record and broadcast a virtual webcam that can include their desktop, their webcam, a movie, some text, an IRC channel, RSS Feed, animations, images or all of them at the same time. Educators, broadcasters, tutorial developers can have their work streamlined.

Scope

The project already exists on Ubuntu - It needs to be ported to Fedora and be included as an rpm. The current location is http://www.ws4gl.org.

The new feature will require:

   OpenJDK or Sun's Java Runtime...
   The GStreamer framework-- all gstreamer-plugins packages to have the maximum compatibility with the videos.
   Make sure that you have read/write access to /dev/videoX
   Make sure to start WS4GL before Firefox to prevent Flash from locking access to the webcamstudio module devices
   Avoid compiling custom kernel.  Often, compatibility will break between webcamstudio module and the custom libraries
   Read the doc on the website and the forum, often, the answer is there

How To Test

1. Acquire the hardware needed (webcam, mic, speakers, etc.)

2. Install the RPMs (OS, Webcamstudio, dependencies - I do not know what they are)

3. Run the application

User Experience

Users of this tool will be able to record and broadcast:

- their desktop, their webcam, a movie, some text, IRC channels, RSS Feed, animations, images

The broadcast can inlcude one of these content or all of them at the same time.

Dependencies

Unknown - Their site (http://www.ws4gl.org/) did mention ffmpeg, gstreamer and associated dependencies

Contingency Plan

I cannot build this feature or package it for Fedora - I hope that someone can do this
