Fedora 11 « Leonidas » Beta available

The Fedora project is proud to unveil the Beta version of Fedora 11 « Leonidas ». You can get it on http://fedoraproject.org/en/get-prerelease

Important Fedora 11 features for end users:

  • Automatic fonts installation via PackageKit when an application needs them
  • Simplified and unified volume control in PulseAudio
  • KMS support for numerous ATI, nVidia and Intel cards to offer a better and smoother boot experience
  • Better fingerprint reader support to make them easy to use as an authentication mechanism.

Important Fedora 11 features for administrators/power users:

  • ext4 file system by default
  • Many improvements in the virtualization space

Important Fedora 11 features for developers:

  • MinGW integration which enables the compilation of Windows applications from Fedora
  • NetBeans 6.5 integration

This Beta version will be followed by a Preview Release around the end of April, and the final version around the end of may if everything goes well. Like every Beta software, this version is aimed at people wishing to contribute to Fedora by submitting bugs to https://bugzilla.redhat.com, this Beta version is not intended to be used in a production environment.
