mizmo	this one time at band camp... here and there... i was drum major, directing people, and this oby that i liked played the tuba
mizmo	or sousaphone
mizmo	smart, witty... he was recently single from a girl that consumed almost all his entire hs life
mizmo	they broke up, which was awesome, and we started dating
mizmo	hang out with friends, that kind of thing.. for an entire summer...
mizmo	you know, the free time you have to screw around and enjoy life
mizmo	school started back up in the fall
mizmo	things seemed to be fine
mizmo	then he wanted to 'talk' to me
mizmo	he was pretty blunt, he said that this evil girl wanted to try things again after she had dumped him
mizmo	and he thought, since we spent all of high school dating and had invested so much time, he had said yeh
mizmo	so i was dumped
mizmo	that was my first real breakup
mizmo	i remember thinking, while he's teling me this - how could you, mr smart, be so unobjective to think thi sis a tiny messup
mizmo	you're going to college in different states
mizmo	they were so different - he was pres of young dems, she was pres of young republicans
mizmo	so i was really bitter
mizmo	thinking he was being very naive
mizmo	stupid  basically
mizmo	not really... here i am being bitter but
mizmo	you leave a job, it's not just because someone made you a job offer, what's pushing you out the door
mizmo	i think it sort of applies to relationships as well
mizmo	what did i do wrong? what's wrong with me
mizmo	i asked and asked, it's not about you, there's nothing, it's not about our relationship
mizmo	in that incident, standing on my doorstep crying, i realized how quickly words can really hurt when they come from someone you really care about
mizmo	fedora
mizmo	fedora is unstable
mizmo	fedora is too fast
mizmo	fedora is not for production
mizmo	you would have to be crazy to use it
mizmo	these are things we've heard over and over again, for years
mizmo	it sort of hits you, people tell you this
mizmo	but this is the thing i work on, and i really love
mizmo	it hurts all of us, because we're all here and we love fedora
mizmo	why are you guys here
mizmo	why are each of you individually here
mizmo	the answer isnt really, my boss let me go, my talk got accepted, i had some time to do it
mizmo	that's how you got here, but not why are you here
mizmo	honest-to-god being passionate
mizmo	made you want to come and spent your fri-sat-sun-mon + days of travel here

mizmo	for me, i love fedora. i hope you guys hopefully love fedora
mizmo	even the most cynical and trollish of you
mizmo	i read a lot, businessy type books, this is the stuff i read in the last 6 mo or so
mizmo	that's not all of them either
mizmo	it gives me something to think about when im not thinking about fedora even tho i end up thinking about fedora when i read these things
mizmo	first one - the story of ....?
mizmo	goes something like this - building love for you brand and your products
mizmo	not for what you do and what you deliever
mizmo	but why you do it
mizmo	the reason we are all here
mizmo	some of the most dearly loved brands, like whole foods, another company that may have a 'fruit' as their logo which we won't talk about here in an open source place
mizmo	they are not building stuff for the sake of just making money
mizmo	they said they are going to make stuff that makes things great and betters the world while they do it
mizmo	one of the goals as you build a company or organization
mizmo	build a love for the org that will continue to last thru change
mizmo	even the best companies, brands... will occasionally wonder, they will screw sometihng up but ppl's loove for the brand will keep them around
mizmo	so they can bounce back
mizmo	will keep ppl around even during trubled times
mizmo	and ... is changing, the technology road
mizmo	the place where we're trying to make things happen
mizmo	10 years ago, 14 years ago... i was a sys admin
mizmo	most of that i have washed from my brain on purpose
mizmo	but what we did there, 4 of us, we had 100 serves, a mix of different OSes
mizmo	some scary old
mizmo	backups on tape casettes

mizmo	I don't know if any of those are necessarily one solution to our entire problem here
mizmo	funny thing about love
mizmo	is that you want to tell eveyrone about how you're in love when youre in love
mizmo	it's infectious... early stages of amor you can't really shut up about it
mizmo	you want to tell everyone you're in love, you met this guy girl or puppy
mizmo	i love this person, this thing, this television show
mizmo	you feel psasionate about this person or thing
mizmo	you want everyone to feel the same thing you feel
mizmo	because it feels great to you
mizmo	we want more ppl who love fedora
mizmo	who will tell other people why they love fedora
mizmo	etc
mizmo	people like us
mizmo	because we're a resilient community
mizmo	we can do these things
mizmo	we can think about how we can change to give ppl what they want
mizmo	without changing our core values
mizmo	i think we can do this
mizmo	build new great things
mizmo	without losing our sense of identity
mizmo	i believe we can build great things thru meritocracy
mizmo	not goals i wrote up on a board that no one wants to work on
mizmo	you come work on fedora - not bc i wrote something on a board
mizmo	its because you want to scratch your own itch
mizmo	we can aim for a better fedora
mizmo	but still work on the things we want to do
mizmo	just connecting ppl with interesting stuff to do
mizmo	i cant give ppl orders
mizmo	fesco cant give ppl orders, the board can't
mizmo	it's all about you guys
mizmo	i believe we can build something that is production quality
mizmo	that is a product
mizmo	that ppl can rely on
mizmo	that woudl be proud to rely on
mizmo	that we can believe, yes you can run fedora in production
mizmo	i already do that to ppl
mizmo	i see ppl all the time saying you'd be insane to do that
mizmo	but i believe we can do this bc we hav ea resilient nature in our community
mizmo	for those of us that are here

mizmo	we have this love for fedora

mizmo	it didn't work out with the other girl
mizmo	he remembered about all the fun times we had together
mizmo	we went to prom
mizmo	this is me, that's him in the background
mizmo	that's my college roommate
mizmo	we had a lot of fun that summer
mizmo	the summer before he went to college
mizmo	i knew it wasnt going to last
mizmo	i still had fun
mizmo	and fun is... one of those other f's
mizmo	the mythical other f

mizmo	we have other f words we joke about

mizmo	all of these things give us these things about the fedora community
mizmo	a feeling of it being our home
mizmo	and it really helps us to stay in love with fedora
mizmo	when other things are a mess
mizmo	we've all pretty much quite literally come here to south carolina
mizmo	and we should live up to our resiilient nature
mizmo	let's plan, argue, drink, get things done
mizmo	write the next chapter of our own love story
mizmo	nothing more personally gratifiying than watching other ppl fall in love with the things we do in the fedora project
