This page needs some love
This page should be revised or reconstructed to be more helpful. Problems may include being out of step with current team or project status or process.
Note.png
If you have questions about your Fedora Ambassadors Membership, please contact the Ambassadors Membership Service at <fama AT fedoraproject DOT org>.

Get your global Fedora account

The first thing that you need is a Fedora Project account. This is handled by the Fedora Account System (FAS).

Create your FAS account and (as part of that process) sign the contributor license agreement (CLA).

Let people know that you exist

Now that you have your FAS account, make your personal page on the Fedora wiki.

Create your personal wiki page at https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Your_FAS_username

Need help?

Either borrow from our template or steal from someone who has a nice page, like:

Explore the Fedora Project

Ask yourself how well you understand the different moving pieces that make up Fedora. As an Ambassador, you'll be asked about numerous parts of the Fedora Project. You don't need to have all the answers, but you need general familiarity with Fedora, and you'll need to know how to find answers.

Read Fedora Weekly News every week. Think about which parts of the Fedora Project capture your attention and imagination. Read Planet Fedora every day. Read LWN.

If your attention and time doesn't get completely monopolized by some other part of Fedora, come on back to us and join the Ambassadors.

Join the Ambassadors group in FAS

If you are logged in to the Fedora Account System, you should be able to view, and then join, the Ambassadors group.

Pick a mentor

Your mentor will he Mentor is your Partner to get sponsored! || Contact and start working with one of these regional mentors. The recommended way to start is, contact the Mentor via email and introduce yourself. A wiki page will help the Mentor to assess your suitability to be an ambassador. Further, the email should contain a bit of information about, what you have done so far, to promote Fedora, amongst your peers/friends and what you intend to do.

Note.png
A mentor will NOT initiate contact with you. You MUST initiate contact with a mentor.
Note.png
Also note that a mentor is under no obligation to accept you, you may have to try several mentors, before you find one who has the time and availability to mentor you.
Note.png
Please don't expect an immediate reply. Most mentors have full time jobs, families, and many responsibilities within Fedora, Please be patient

Subscribe to the Ambassadors mailing list

Subscribe to Fedora Ambassadors Mailing List || It is an imperative rule that, if you want to be an ambassador (in FAS), you have to be subscribed in the only, official mailing list of ambassadors!

Stop (medium size).png
'DO NOT SEND ANY NON-AMBASSADOR RELATED MESSAGES to the fedora ambassadors mailing list!!!!' This includes invites to social-networking sites, welcome messages to new ambassadors, technical support questions or advice or anything else, which is not deemed Fedora ambassador related!

Then what?

Note.png
After FAmA gets your request approved by your mentor, and you have completed all of the above steps, FAmA will sponsor and approve your membership to the Ambassador Group in FAS. FAmA (fedora-ambassadors-list-owner AT redhat DOT com) will make group introductions as soon as your ambassadors request has been approved.
Idea.png
During the mentoring process, the new candidate would not normally be able to request money or materials from the project. Exceptions can be made in extraordinary cases.

If a person, already actively contributing to another project with Fedora, joins the ambassadors team, they may skip the "probation" period.
