License Notes

This license is considered Free and GPL-Compatible. It is derived from the BSD license, but contains an additional redistribution clause. Specifically, it mandates that redistributions in any form not only include the source code of Berkeley DB, but also "any accompanying software that uses the DB software".

It is most commonly found on the Berkeley DB code, which also contains code that is multi-licensed with the "normal" BSD license by multiple copyright holders (most notably The Regents of the University of California, The President and Fellows of Harvard University, and INRIA). For Berkeley DB, the copyright owner (Oracle) offers (for sale) a separate commercial license (presumably a non-free one, although, the text is not publicly available) to bypass the redistribution clause.
