From Fedora Project Wiki

The Fedora picture book is a project of the Marketing team. The goal of this photo project is to communicate what Fedora means to us and our communities. Images should show a Fedora contributor doing something Fedora- or free software-related and should include a short description of 250-500 words (their "story") of how the subject uses Fedora and free software and how this photo demonstrates one of the four foundations (freedom, friends, features, first).

Photographers are open to interpret this theme as concretely or abstractly as they like. For example, you could choose to photograph something as straightforward as a teacher you encouraged to use Fedora in the classroom holding an apple with a Fedora sticker on it, or you could have someone photograph you holding a personal item that symbolizes what inspired you to join the project. Feel free to brainstorm for whimsical ideas as well, such as a developer covered in peanuts (because you have to be "nuts" to work for free, right?). Group photos are also acceptable, such as a group of ambassadors holding stacks of livecds to be distributed or XO's in the wild.

Submission and distribution

Photos will be uploaded to this wiki. For the first set of books, enough photos will be selected to produce four books, each relating to the four foundations. Striving to provide full cover of the entire Fedora community is necessary. See the requirements for information on what your photo needs and how it is to be uploaded.

The books will be published through Lightning Source and whatever profits are left will benefit internal Ambassadors and Marketing efforts or will be donated to well-deserving non-profits.

Requirements

Images should be of high quality. You don't have to be a professional photographer, but composition, focus, and lighting are vital to communicating a strong message. If in doubt of your photography skills, feel free to ask a friend or post your idea to $mailinglist to see if we can find someone in your area who's willing to help.

Images must contain at least one person doing something Fedora-related. It's recommended for the photo to fit into one of the four foundations, but not required (we'll fit it in somehow).

Images must be licensed under a license compatible with CC-BY-SA (CC-BY is the other CC license compatible with this one).

Submitting your image

  • Make sure you have a FAS account with a signed CLA and access to the wiki.
  • Confirm that you have: the image (in a high enough resolution -- at least 9" on both sides at 300dpi), release forms of everybody in that image, and a "story" to go with that image.
  • Upload your image with information about the photo, the individual "stories", and [[Category:Picture book photos waiting for approval]]. Ensure that you have added the photo to that category, because we won't ever see it if you don't.
    • How to name your image: If there is one person in the shot, Lastname-firstname-####.jpg is the template. Use a four digit number (zero pad if necessary) starting with 0001. If there is more than one person in the shot, repeat the 'lastname-firstname' template from left to right.
