==Why Does FEDORA Attend Southeast Fest==
Fedora has been the staple of Southeast Linux Fest. In past years there were several other Linux Distributions that attended alongside Fedora, many of which decided to no longer attend, but Fedora has been the steadfast for the past 8 years and continues to showcase Fedora as the leading edge of software technology, community developed, and stable platform for both new and old computers. Southeast Linux Fest also tends to draw the local College students in for a look around and draws linux enthusiasts from several neighboring states as far south Florida and north from Kentucky. SELF also provides the opportunity for ambassadors with different expertise within Fedora to provide the best possible experience to our audience.

Why Does FEDORA Attend Southeast Fest

Southeast LinuxFest draws from several surrounding states. Attending this event enables us to demonstrate the powerful and versatile Workstation, Server, and Atomic operating system software offered from Fedora.

What is the focus of the event

Our focus this year is going to be on Workstation and the various Fedora Desktop spins. Over the past several years the data gathered from the attendees has been consistent with the popularity of GNOME and two of Fedora’s spins with Mate and Cinnamon. The majority of the attendees are users or novice linux users with a few in the mix that are experts. This is a prime opportunity to showcase what Fedora offers in all of the various desktop environments available and the details that separate Fedora from the rest.

How does our attendance at this event build users of or contributors to specific Fedora solutions — and why are those particular solutions strategically important

This event has a unique way of showing the differences of new users and what they are interested in. Many of the users were not aware that Fedora had more than the default desktop environment available. With the some of the more experienced Linux users, when Fedora is mentioned the usual response is they do not care for GNOME, but are unaware that there is more than one desktop environment. These particular experienced users are a valuable platform that Fedora can build from. Each and every one of the experienced user that we can get to try or use Fedora is a new set of eyes that can provide Fedora with new insights on software, configuration, and technical issues that need improvement. Strategically, Fedora benefits from increasing the number or users which by increasing the base (or foundation) we can pull from the knowledge and technical issues discovered from the wide base and various different equipment platforms.

How does our attendance at this event build users of or contributors to the Fedora platform overall

Southeast Linux Festival is centered on the everyday user and tailored to those who are just starting out or just want to learn more about the world of Free and Open Source Software. Every year since Fedora has been attending we have showcased Fedora GNOME Desktop environment and the various Desktop Spins. Our attendance year after year has given new users a different look and environment and some various insights and technical knowledge to those who already use our products. New users greatly improve our baseline and provide critical feedback on Fedora and what we could improve on. With respect to our experienced users their technical feedback on Fedora is always welcome and greatly encouraged.

Measured Success

There are many ways that data can be collected. Each event has vastly different attendees, which can be difficult determine how to collect data from the attendees. The measured success during this event relies on the ambassadors working the booth and the ability to speak to each attendee and encourage each individual to provide feedback on Fedora and the project. Our success is measured on having our booth visitors fill out a non personal questionnaire that details their experience at the booth and about Fedora in specific. Each DVD that is distributed will be counted and identified with Spin or Lab distribution. The questionnaire will also ask the attendee on what they like or dislike about Fedora, current Operating system being used, and if the individual would like to get involved in the project. The data will be included on the final report for the event and available for ambassadors to review.
