Can't make the date?
If you come to this page before or after the test day is completed, your testing is still valuable, and you can use the information on this page to test, file any bugs you find at Bugzilla, and add your results to the results section. If this page is more than a month old when you arrive here, please check the current schedule and see if a similar but more recent Test Day is planned or has already happened.

What to test?[edit]

Today's installment of Fedora Test Day will focus on GNOME 3.36

See Kalev's instructions video here: https://youtu.be/qbssBE6YB3s

Who's available?[edit]

The following cast of characters will be available for testing, workarounds, bug fixes, and general discussion ...

Prerequisites for Test Day[edit]

  • A Fedora 32 Workstation 20200220.n.0 nightly image either on bare metal or in VM (please make sure you have no important data on that installation, things might go wrong -- don't do this on your production machine!).
  • Enough free space on HDD

How to test?[edit]

Do exploratory testing[edit]

Use the latest Fedora 32 Workstation that includes GNOME 3.35.91 and see if you can find anything that's crashing or not working right. In that case, file a bug!

What to focus on?[edit]

3.36 has quite a lot of changes, including:

  • New login/unlock UI - upstream test plan
  • Updated user settings - background, users, about, privacy, region & language (formats dialog)
  • New Do Not Disturb feature - can be activated from the calendar popover or Settings
  • App folders in the activities overview - new drag and drop functionality, and new UI for renaming each folder
  • System dialogs - have had a UI refresh, in particular it's worth checking the authentication dialog
  • Extensions - new app for managing shell extensions

More details on the changes can be seen here.

Run the tests[edit]

Visit the result page and click on the column title links to see the tests that need to be run: most column titles are links to a specific test case. Follow the instructions there, then enter your results by clicking the Enter result button for the test.

Reporting bugs[edit]

We have two separate places to file bugs. First, downstream in Fedora bug tracker. This is mostly useful for issues with packaging and for issues that need tracking downstream (blocker bugs for F32): Red Hat Bugzilla.

Second, there's upstream GNOME Gitlab that's useful for issues that are likely not Fedora-specific. If you file an issue downstream that looks like it needs a code fix, please file it upstream as well, to make sure all relevant people get notified of the issue.

If you are unsure about exactly how to file the report or what other information to include, just ask on IRC #fedora-test-day or #fedora-qa and we will help you.

  1. When I log into classic mode, it seems that only some of the extensions are active - I get the different theme and places menu, but I'm missing the application menu and window list.
  2. Do not disturb seems to work as expected. However, the switch in the control center is the wrong way round: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/issues/878 Media controls work in the calendar popover.

  1. tested all the a11y setting switches, working fine.
  2. able to login into Classic session
  3. g-i-s worked fine. However, the command given to force it again in test case is not working.
  4. I think just clicking on lock screen gives you password entry box, so no need to slide upwards
  5. worked fine gdm login screen, user switching and its preferences.
  6. Worked fine with all suggested changes in test case

  2. "5. Check that nautilus shows icons on the desktop (Note: If the Tweak Tool is installed, this could be overridden regardless of being in classic mode)" Maybe I didn't understand that point... Nautilus only shows Desktop folder in Home but does not show its contents on the desktop. I didn't install Tweak Tool or Desktop Icons extension.

  1. 3.35.91 Regression, Extensions application problem (Note that this was working correctly on 3.35.90). When opening the new Extensions application and having at least one "Manually installed" extension, no extensions are shown, even if they're all disabled. After globally disabling/enabling them, the "Manually installed" extensions won't show up and the extension's settings won't open. The Tweaks application correctly shows the installed extensions, but the settings won't launch as well. Via: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/2240 Fix released. Merge on Fedora 32 branch.
