My Wife,daughter and I run our Business CrossBytes. We have been refurbishing older computers in Clark County since 2004, providing low or no-cost computers,
I grew up in Palo Alto California during the Silicon Valley growth period.  I developed a strong dedication to computers and computer programming during my youth.  Now I live in Vancouver, Washington and have been teaching Linux to my daughters and to individuals who purchase my refurbished computers.  I have built my business, Crossbytes, based on the theory that everyone should have a computer and the software available to reach their individual goals.  I have installed Fedora on several computers and have adapted Fedora to the ASUS EEE laptop computer.  My daughter uses the ASUS EEE for all of her school assignments and now in her senior year she is planning on using it in college as well.

My goal is to rebuild and refurbish used computers and put them in the hands of children that could not otherwise afford them.  I am building relationships with several school districts in both Portland and Vancouver to begin a nomination process for deserving students.  Each nominated student will receive a complete computer system from Crossbytes with a custom spin of Fedora consisting of a Monitor, tower, keyboard, mouse, printer and set up for internet access. All of the computers and printers come from people within the community who have donated them to Crossbytes.
 
Everyone who has converted to Linux from other operating systems are impressed with the security and ease of use. I want to continue educating individuals about Fedora and promoting Fedora to everyone who desires to learn.  Not one person has converted back to an old operation system.  They have referred their friends and family to me for Fedora systems and education. 
 
The foundation for the Fedora surge I have envisioned has been laid.  As I progress with my goals I foresee the surge becoming a wave.  Linux touches so many different age groups in so many different ways that numerous education opportunities arise.  I am ready for each new adventure and opportunity as they become available.

Our goal is to put computers in the hands of young people who could not afford one otherwise. With the world going more and more towards technology in the schools the less fortunate children are the ones who end up suffering. We want to level the playing field. Every donated computer and every custom computer sale brings us closer to our goal. We have just started to install Fedora on Asus EEE as of the start of Aug 2008.

Hi, my name is Kevin Higgins.
