From Fedora Project Wiki

Here are some proposed changes to create the Fedora Business Card layout 2.1. 2.0 (the current version) will be deprecated, but nobody will kill you if you still have 2.0 cards (the differences are small).

Fonts

The font for the editable text shall be changed to Liberation Sans (Bold for the name).

 • This is brought on by concerns that some names can not be printed in MgOpen Moderna (the current font) because it is missing a ton of necessary glyphs for names like Máirín.
 • Font sizes will stay the same.

Against

--Duffy 17:47, 1 July 2009 (UTC) my name's not supported but i still think this is a bad idea. can we find an mgopen modata deriv that has the accents?
-- --wonderer 18:14, 1 July 2009 (UTC) refering to http://www.dafont.com/Liberation-Sans.Font there should be the accent in it ... maybe i'm wrong here...
--Jack 18:14, 1 July 2009 (UTC) Agree with Mo, on principle
-- ynemoy 19:14, 1 July 2009 (UTC) Keep the font to reinforce the branding. Don't use a generic font for the same reasons.

Telephone number: international format

It has been requested by Till Maas to use an international format (i.e., +1 919 424-0063).

Telephone number: Fedora Talk extension

Replace "x" to symbolize the Fedora Talk extension with "ext." for readability.

-- lcafiero 17:31, 1 July 2009 (UTC).
--Quaid 20:59, 1 July 2009 (UTC) (Better readability, and the extension is how I've mainly been called; it's nice to give your recipients a number to call already instead of having to call and then look it up in an ever growing directory.)

Against

--Duffy 17:49, 1 July 2009 (UTC) i've never seen 'ext' on a biz card before, x is pretty clear
--Jack 18:23, 1 July 2009 (UTC) I don't think we need Fedora Talk extensions on the cards you can easily look it up and it doesn't add anything to people who are outside FAS

Neutral

-- ynemoy 19:14, 1 July 2009 (UTC) Seen it both ways when i worked for a print broker, the reason to choose one over the other is a matter of style and branding

The GPG fingerprint/key debate

Add an additional "optional backside" to the card that is white and contains only the cardholder's name, their GPG key ID, and their GPG fingerprint.

 • When using this option, the GPG key ID will be removed from the front of the card. It will remain if the option is not used.
 • A lot of people have requested that their full fingerprint be printed on the card, but it won't fit on the front. We hope this can help resolve that problem.

-- GeroldKa 19:01, 1 July 2009 (UTC).
-- ynemoy 19:14, 1 July 2009 (UTC) Having the full fingerprint is critical when used at keysignings
--Quaid 21:03, 1 July 2009 (UTC) I ordered a second set of cards with a blank back just for note taking, etc.; then I carry both. I like the idea of having an option to make a blank back that carries a bit more value over my plain white style. My one addition would be a small Fedora logo, something to maintain a bit of branding even when turned over. I've used my Red Hat card with the full fingerprint for key signings on a few occasions, that is a valuable option.

Against

-- lcafiero 17:32, 1 July 2009 (UTC). I don't understand how having a full fingerprint on a business card is beneficial or necessary.
--Duffy 17:48, 1 July 2009 (UTC) i dont think the full fingerprint is ever necessary. better to keep the back of the card clean for notetaking which is what many people use them for
--Jack 18:23, 1 July 2009 (UTC)We don't need the whole fingerprint just the key id/last 5
-- ynemoy 19:14, 1 July 2009 (UTC) Keeping the card clean for notes is nice, although that doesn't translate to other cultures. I've heard in some locales it's rude to write on a business card.

Translatable foundations

Make the "freedom friends features first" text translatable into other languages.

For

This is not something I would use personally, but seems like it would be nice for those whose native language is not english --Nb 16:44, 1 July 2009 (UTC).
--YN1V 17:51, 1 July 2009 (UTC) I would suggest to get hold on official translations
--Jack 18:23, 1 July 2009 (UTC) Yeah, why not pending we can approve this
--Quaid 21:08, 1 July 2009 (UTC) This is an option that would be good. We need to trust the local Ambassadors to know when having a translated set of Foundations would have more impact. Some places it won't translate well enough, but other places it could be a big difference. Forcibly denying the ability to l10n seems strong-handed. Caveat: The business cards need a clear branding guide that recommends and explains, and is translated for local clarity. Since fields are editable, people can put all manner of interesting content in there, some of which may be off-brand.

--wonderer 18:14, 1 July 2009 (UTC) The "slogan" should IMHO always stay as it.\
-- ynemoy 19:14, 1 July 2009 (UTC) English language slogans in non english speaking countries is quickly becoming a norm. It varies from culture to culture, but since we are a very international organisation, localization is a bad thing.
