'''Fedora Women''' is a project designed to connect and assist women who are interested in using and contributing to [[Fedora]].
'''Fedora Women''' is an informal community effort to promote and support the involvement of anyone who identifies as a woman or non-binary in the Fedora Community. Since announced in July 2006,<ref>[https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-announce-list/2006-July/msg00003.html Introducing Fedora Women]</ref> Fedora Women advocated for awareness about women within the Fedora Project and their contributions.

Because it is estimated that only 1.5% of [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_and_open_source_software free and open source software] (FOSS) developers are female,<ref>[http://www.datamation.com/osrc/article.php/3838186/Sexism-Open-Source-Softwares-Dirty-Little-Secret.htm Sexism: Open Source Software's Dirty Little Secret]</ref> Fedora Women is crucial in both uniting and empowering women against gender-based stigmas, which are often considered detrimental to the success of female FOSS developers. Since being announced in July 2006,<ref>[https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-announce-list/2006-July/msg00003.html Introducing Fedora Women]</ref> Fedora Women has striven to raise awareness of the female community - along with the many roles women have as contributors and users - within the Fedora Project.
An article was published on the Fedora [https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/commops/community-blog/ Community Blog] in 2016 about women contributors in Fedora.<ref>[https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/women-in-computing-and-fedora/ Women in Computing and Fedora]</ref>

On the Fedora [[Community Blog]], a reflection and plan for reaching out to more women contributors was shared in the [https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/women-in-computing-and-fedora/ Women in Computing and Fedora] article.
Although this community effort is not very active, the [https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/diversity-inclusion/ Fedora Diversity & Inclusion Team] is the best point-of-contact for support with the Fedora Women effort.

; Provide a forum for women in the Fedora Community.

: The project provides a central forum where women in the Fedora Community can work or socialize with one another without the distractions that may appear elsewhere.
* Foster involvement of women in Fedora and Free and Open Source Software.
; Provide a stronger voice for the women of the Fedora Community.
* Provide a central forum for women interested in Fedora and Free and Open Source Software to interact.
: By allowing the women of the Fedora Community to coordinate with one another and speak in unison, this project provides a larger collective voice, making the will of the group more apparent to the rest of the community.
* Provide a stronger voice for the women of the Fedora Community and highlight their contributors to Fedora.
; Avoid segregation.
: This project attempts to bring some balance to a community that is made up of mostly men. It is not intended to separate women from the rest of the community, but rather to bring them closer to it by making sure they are included in the community voice.
; Have fun!
: This project is not meant to be just a dull channel for a few ideas. Fedora Women is, ideally, a fun and engaging environment that fosters participation and further development.

Fedora Women is an informal community effort to promote and support the involvement of anyone who identifies as a woman or non-binary in the Fedora Community. Since announced in July 2006,[1] Fedora Women advocated for awareness about women within the Fedora Project and their contributions.

An article was published on the Fedora Community Blog in 2016 about women contributors in Fedora.[2]

Although this community effort is not very active, the Fedora Diversity & Inclusion Team is the best point-of-contact for support with the Fedora Women effort.

Outreachy

Fedora participates in the Outreachy program, formerly known as GNOME Outreach Program for Women (OPW). Outreachy was inspired by both the Google Summer of Code and also how few women applied for it in the past. This program is an internship program specifically targeted at women, people of color, and other under-represented groups.
