Fedora Women

Promoting and supporting involvement of women in the Fedora Project

Fedora Women is an informal community effort to promote and support the involvement of anyone who identifies as a woman or non-binary in the Fedora Community. Since announced in July 2006,^[1] Fedora Women advocated for awareness about women within the Fedora Project and their contributions.

An article was published on the Fedora Community Blog in 2016 about women contributors in Fedora.^[2]

Although this community effort is not very active, the Fedora Diversity & Inclusion Team is the best point-of-contact for support with the Fedora Women effort.

Mission statement

Foster involvement of women in Fedora and Free and Open Source Software.
Provide a central forum for women interested in Fedora and Free and Open Source Software to interact.
Provide a stronger voice for the women of the Fedora Community and highlight their contributors to Fedora.

Get involved

Fedora Women is open to any woman or non-binary person in the Fedora Project and Free and Open Source Software. Involvement with Fedora Project as a user and/or a contributor is highly encouraged, but not required. We also welcome anyone who supports the involvement of women to use and contribute to Fedora Project, regardless of their gender.

Join Fedora Women on Freenode IRC at #fedora-women. You can also subscribe to Fedora Women mailing list. If you are new to Fedora Women, please introduce yourself on the mailing list to the Fedora Women community.

New to Fedora?

You can contribute to Fedora across diverse teams including but not limited to Coding and Development, Packaging, Testing, Marketing, Outreach, Advocacy, Community Operations, Design. If you are interested in contributing, introducing yourself to the Fedora Join community is a good place to start!

Outreachy

Fedora participates in the Outreachy program, formerly known as GNOME Outreach Program for Women (OPW). Outreachy was inspired by both the Google Summer of Code and also how few women applied for it in the past. Different free and open source software (FOSS) projects or organizations can apply to offer paid internships as part of the program. This program is an internship program specifically targeted at women, people of color, and other under-represented groups.
