The Free Open Source Software Conference (FOSSCON) is scheduled for August 26 at the International House of Philadelphia
Why should Fedora attend FOSSCON
On a smaller scale compared to ScaLE or OSCON or SELF, this conference is on of the premier Northeast 'community' events for all things F/LOSS.
It is a good event to source users, especially college and graduate students, as there are a large number of colleges & universities in the Philadelphia area. Furthermore students are frequently assigned to use Linux in projects nowadays, and come looking for options and to ask questions.
Like many FOSS-focused events, people from LUGs in nearby states attend. Other cities like New York city and Baltimore are within driving distance and/or are along the Amtrak Northeast Corridor. It is important that these people learn about Fedora and have a chance to use it, so that they can show it off and recommend it to others at their LUGs.
The conference focuses on FOSS / Open Culture in general and therefore draws a more diverse crowd than a Linux event, but this can be a benefit to Fedora. It includes groups such as FOSS in amateur radio and Open Education. These people may not be typical Linux users, but have an interest in using open source to get the job done.
Aug 26, 2017. 9AM - 4PM is the "occupy the sponsor area" time.
There will be another hour for a closing talk.
