Description
This test case tests whether the development release can boot and install inside a VirtualBox virtual machine. Fedora cannot and does not guarantee that this will be the case; this test is purely informational (it helps us at least know whether we're working on VirtualBox, and document the problems if not). Failures of this test should only be reported as Fedora bugs if you are sure the fault lies with Fedora and not VirtualBox.
Setup
- Install VirtualBox on your host (the host can be Fedora, another Linux distribution, Windows, or macOS). The procedure for this is outside the scope of this test case
How to test
- Create a VirtualBox virtual machine and boot the release to be tested in it (it is probably best to use one of the release-blocking images, e.g. Workstation live). In general use default settings, but you may need to increase the RAM allocation from 2G to 4G, and allocating 2 CPU cores instead of 1 can speed things up. If you encounter graphical issues with the default video driver, try switching to the vboxvga driver
- Proceed with normal installation (refer to QA:Testcase_Boot_default_install)
Expected Results
- The installer successfully boots
- The installer is able to activate and use the virtual network device(s)
- The installer is able to activate and use the virtual storage device(s)
- The install completes successfully
- The system reboots successfully, recognizing filesystems created on the virt device(s)
