One Canvas Workflow
The Echo icon theme and Fedora 10
MartinSourada talked[1] on the @fedora-art about the One Canvas Workflow: "I think we need to be up to date with technology, so I started downloading the One Canvas Workflow screencast by jimmac. I haven't tried it yet (but going to do so very soon), but from the people who already tried it and shared their thoughts about it, it seems like it would be improvement for the Echo Icon Theme creation workflow".
NicuBuculei asked[1] on @fedora-art about the plans of using the new Echo icon set as a default on Fedora 10: "considering the feature freeze, the Beta release and as Echo is not a feature proposed for F10, is correct the assumption that we won't have Echo as a default for F10, staying with Mist [at least] one more release cycle?"

Soon after this Martin presented[2] the first icons created using this process, an opportunity to introduce icons at a very large size (256x256px) and with an increased amount of details[3].
In reply LuyaTshimbalanga pointed[2] that is still possible, due to a slip in the release cycle: "Shall we try to make it as Fedora 10 feature. Thanks to, in some extend, the incident, feature freeze has been moved on September 9th."

Editor's note: One Canvas Workflow is an improved way to create multiple icon size in one single sheet, advocated by the famous designer and GNOME hacker Jackub Steiner "jimmac"[4].
MartinSourada shared[3] his experience "It seems like artwork things are preferred to be decided by the Art Team rather than Fesco. I have a feeling it might be same for Echo." and proposed that this decision should be made together by the Art and Desktop teams "In this case I personally think Echo should be put on evaluation by Art Team and Desktop Team. If both agree it's ready for
default we can roll it in ;-)" while NicuBuculei stressed[4] the importance of having Art features listed "from a marketing POV, if we list it as a "feature" it will be picked by more news source and help building the excitement around the new release."

Fedora Art Team Monthly Picks
Automatizing the One Canvas workflow
MairinDuffy proposed[1] an initiative: "[...] maybe the Fedora Art Team could do a monthly art pack (kind of along the likes of the iCE and ACiD art groups' monthly art packs) that would be a selection of say the top 10 best art works producing using Fedora (inkscape, gimp, etc., it just has to be software that's available in Fedora used to produce it.)" Mairin's intention was to promote the works created by members of the team: "I think this might be a good way of getting more recognition to our artists as well as to what Fedora can do".
In the last FWN[1] issue we covered 'One Canvas workflow', an innovative way to create icons, this week it continued to be a topic on @fedora-art and MartinSourada introduced[2] [3] a script that makes the work easier "greatly simplifies life for Echo artist, since all they need is to make the Source SVG, run the script on it, select which branches they'd like to push it to and write commit message(s) - i.e. it automates most of the process". He also wrote a blog post[4] about this and created a screencast[5] illustrating the process.

Discussion is open for details of the technical implementation.

With the deadline for the second round for theming the upcoming Fedora 10, a number of theme proposals received updates: Gears[1], Solar[2] and InvinXible[3] and each of them is under evolution in the remaining week.

The Echo icon theme and Fedora 10

NicuBuculei asked[1] on @fedora-art about the plans of using the new Echo icon set as a default on Fedora 10: "considering the feature freeze, the Beta release and as Echo is not a feature proposed for F10, is correct the assumption that we won't have Echo as a default for F10, staying with Mist [at least] one more release cycle?"

In reply LuyaTshimbalanga pointed[2] that is still possible, due to a slip in the release cycle: "Shall we try to make it as Fedora 10 feature. Thanks to, in some extend, the incident, feature freeze has been moved on September 9th."

If both agree it's ready for default we can roll it in ;-)" while NicuBuculei stressed[4] the importance of having Art features listed "from a marketing POV, if we list it as a "feature" it will be picked by more news source and help building the excitement around the new release."

Automatizing the One Canvas workflow

In the last FWN[1] issue we covered 'One Canvas workflow', an innovative way to create icons, this week it continued to be a topic on @fedora-art and MartinSourada introduced[2] [3] a script that makes the work easier "greatly simplifies life for Echo artist, since all they need is to make the Source SVG, run the script on it, select which branches they'd like to push it to and write commit message(s) - i.e. it automates most of the process". He also wrote a blog post[4] about this and created a screencast[5] illustrating the process.
