Fedora 10 Xfce Spin

Summary

To provide a Fedora Xfce Spin (live cd) as part of the Fedora 10 release

Owner

  • Name: RahulSundaram and Xfce SIG

Current status

  • Targeted release: Fedora 10
  • Last updated: 2008 July 29th
  • Percentage of completion: 10%

Detailed Description

Fedora 8 and Fedora 9 already had Xfce spins. Fedora 10 is just a continuation of the process.

Benefit to Fedora

Xfce fans and developers will get a easy to use live cd with Xfce as the default desktop environment and a set of complimentary applications that match and fit into the desktop environment well.

Scope

Upstream was planning on a major new release but the current schedule doesn't seem to be a achievable target. So we are unlikely to get any major changes before minor tweaks with the default set of applications. Details will follow.

Test Plan

Release alpha and beta releases in sync with Fedora 10 Run the Xfce spin through the QA team basic set of tests on i386 and x86_64 platforms Work with Fedora QA to ensure that we have sufficient coverage

User Experience

Xfce users will get a more integrated look and feel that matches the one in GNOME.

Dependencies

None. Packages that we need are already in the repository

Contingency Plan

  • Don't include a spin

Documentation

  • We will provide those after reaching consensus on the default set of applications

Release Notes

  • Ditto as documentation
