Paris

Paris is the capital (and largest city) of France, at the heart of the Île-de-France region. The city of Paris has an estimated population of 2,211,297 while the Paris metropolitan area has a population of 12,089,098 and is one of the most populated metropolitan areas in Europe. Paris was the largest city in the Western world for about 1,000 years, prior to the 19th century, and the largest in the world between the 16th and 19th centuries.

Paris is today one of the world's leading business and cultural centres, and its influences in politics, education, entertainment, media, fashion, science, and the arts all contribute to its status as one of the world's major global cities. It hosts the headquarters of many international organizations such as UNESCO, the OECD, the International Chamber of Commerce or the informal Paris Club. Paris is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world as one of the greenest and most liveable in Europe. It is the most visited city in the world.

Transportation

  • Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) is Europe's second-busiest airport (after London Heathrow). It offers direct flights to/from 315 destinations including all of the European capital cities and numerous destinations in the other continents. Flights from/to major American airports (New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington, ...) are available.
Airport Price for return tickets Duration
TBD XXX€ Yh
PRG €150 / $165 1:45
IAD €895 / $1000 10-11h (via KEF)
BOS €795 / $890 9:30-10:30h (via KEF)
  • CDG airport is connected to Paris by the RER B suburban route (€10 in 2015). Paris itself can be reached in 30-35 mins.
  • Paris also offers good train connections from virtually all of Europe. London is 3 hours away via the Eurostar while Franfurt is 4 hours away.

Proposed Venues

EFREI - 30, Avenue de la République in Villejuif (at the south of Paris).

  • Very nice and relatively new buildings (the oldest was built in 2001)
  • The venue holds local events, both FLOSS and non-FLOSS related (the last one was a Mah-jong tournament) of a size comparable to Flock.

We would have those rooms available:

  • 1 lecture room for 320
  • 2 classrooms for 80
  • 4 classrooms for 32

Everything is located in two adjacent buildings.

The only big hotel close to the EFREI campus is the Campanile Villejuif who can provide 30 rooms with twin beds (80€/room/night). More rooms are available at the Hotel Campanile Paris Sud - Porte D'Italie, more expensive and further away from the campus.

Hôtel Novotel Paris Centre Tour Eiffel - 61 quai de Grenelle, Paris

  • Close to the center of Paris
  • 4 star hotel, free internet access, swimming pool, ...
  • The Tour Eiffel Novotel doubles as a conference center. It has:
    • An conference room for 250 people (3600€/day)
    • 8 classrooms for 40 people each (480€/day/room)
    • standard Twin rooms would be 150€/room/night. I've informed the hotel that we'll be putting down an option on 100 rooms.

Hôtel Novotel Paris Est - 1 Avenue de la Republique, Bagnolet (east of Paris)

  • 4 star hotel, free internet access, swimming pool, ...
  • The Paris Est Novotel doubles as a conference center. It has:
    • An conference room for 250 people (3245€/day)
    • 8 classrooms for 35 people each (246€/day/room)
    • standard Twin rooms would be 129€/room/night. I've informed the hotel that we'll be putting down an option on 100 rooms.

Lodging

If we were to go with the EFREI school as our venue, the lodging would probably be the Campanile Villejuif (20 Rue du Docteur Pinel at Villejuif), the closest hotel to the school.

If we were to choose one of the Novotel hotels as our venue, lodging would in the hotel itself.
