Spin Name

Fedora Java

Summary

A spin dedicated to Java developers, with many convenient packages installed by default.

Owner(s)

Detailed Description

The Fedora Java Spin contains many useful packages installed by default, that are useful for any Java developer. It features the latest Eclipse IDE with many useful plugins installed. It also includes JBoss AS7, a fast, powerful, implementation of the Java Enterprise Edition 6 specification.

Benefit to Fedora

The Java Spin showcases many of the packages available in Fedora for Java developers. It will hopefully encourage Java developers who use other platforms to try Fedora. On the live image, they can get straight to work, developing their Java applications without having to spend time installing the operating system. To that end, there are other useful packages installed by default that are useful for developers, such as SCM tools such as git, svn, and mercurial, and GUI frontends for these; and XChat for IRC. Some other defaults have been set, that differ slightly from a default Fedora install, such as GNOME Terminal maximizing by default, and some consistent keybindings across applications such as Eclipse and GNOME Terminal. It is hoped that these slight chnages will give users of the spin a more consistent experience.
