* Reasonable behaviours might be:
# The laptop suspends when you close the lid.
*# The laptop should suspend when you close the lid. Always. Otherwise you risk frying your laptop when you close it and stow it away
# The laptop resumes when you open the lid, quickly and smoothly.
*# The laptop should resume when you open the lid, quickly and smoothly.
# NetworkManager re-establishes a network connection.
*# NetworkManager should reestablish a network connection. Applications that had a network connection should tolerate a brief interruption and continue.
* Unreasonable behaviours would include:
*# Not suspending when the lid is closed
*# Not resuming when the lid is opened
*# Resuming and immediately shutting down
*# Slow and flickery resume
*# Applications that crash after resume

The description bellow describes the default behaviour that can be overridden. If you changed the defaults just judge whether the system behaviour is 'reasonable' or not. If some aspect of the system behaviour is surprising or confusing to you, it is probably worth pointing out.
  1. The laptop suspends when you close the lid.
  2. The laptop resumes when you open the lid, quickly and smoothly.
  3. NetworkManager re-establishes a network connection.
