"OpenBLAS as default BLAS" is a bit generic, because it's not a single variant but actually comes in 9(?) different flavors.
As a BLAS user, my 2c would be to make the OpenMP variants the default.
Also, some libraries such as arpack shouldn't be linked against BLAS so that the specific implementation can be chosen at link time.
