  1. Do a full system update and reboot
  2. Run gnome-software (Software in the overview)
  3. Wait a minute or two
  4. Run gedit ~/.cache/gnome-software/$(rpm -q --queryformat '%{VERSION}\n' gnome-software | cut -d '.' -f-2)/upgrades/fedora.json; this should open an existing file in gedit (Text Editor)
You can change gedit to another text editor if you like
  5. Find the line containing "version": "41" (or the release number you want to upgrade to, if it's not 41)
  6. The line above it will probably say "status": "Under Development",. Change "Under Development" to "Active". If it already says "status": "Active",, just leave it alone
  7. Reboot the system or log out and in again, then wait for a few minutes
  8. A notification of an available upgrade should appear. If it does, click it. If not, note this as a bug, but run gnome-software (Software in the overview), click the Updates button, and click the refresh button at top-left
  9. Check that there is a banner informing you about the new release, with Learn More and Download buttons
  10. Click Learn More and check it does something appropriate (it may link to a page that has not yet been written; this is probably OK if the URL looks sensible)
  11. Click Download
  12. Once the download process completes, click the Install button that should appear
  13. If a dialog asking for administrator authentication appears, complete it
  14. Click the Restart & Install button that should appear next
  15. Once the system reboots, the system should boot into the upgrade process and a graphical progress screen should be displayed
    • Pressing Esc should switch from the graphical progress screen to the text progress information display
  16. Once the upgrade process has completed, the system should reboot and an option to boot the new release should be on the grub menu
  17. Log in to the upgraded system, open a terminal, file browser, or other system applications
