HP Secure Boot g6-2145ss

About this page

If you have an HP laptop g6-2145ss with Windows 7 pre-installed (OEM), this info could be useful. Personally, I do not know if others laptop with some BIOS steps or characteristics could be same/similar. Please, if you have an another HP laptop model with some/similar steps, please add your model info, and BIOS version at this page.

BIOS F.02,03,08

You do not need upgrade if you do not want do it. However, F.02,03,...,08 into F.23 mean 23 changes totaly. F.23 fixes some bugs and others bugs not listed here:

  • - Provides an updated support list for the Brazilian localization of the Ralink wireless LAN card.
  • - Enables the system to boot from an optical disc drive without displaying an error message when a key is not pressed to start the boot.
  • - Disables the Load HP Factory Default Keys option when the BIOS leaves the EFI shell and enters the BIOS setup menu.
  • - Provides improved confirmation dialogue when the boot type is changed in the BIOS setup menu.
  • - Fixes an intermittent issue where the system does not function properly after resuming from sleep mode (S3).
  • - Fixes an issue where the HP logo is visually corrupted when the system is connected to an IPV6 server and then powered on (booted).

Feel free you do not see secure boot included on this upgraded, I think is on latest updates, because cannot found old BIOS releases .EXEs

  • Note: Please if you find old releases changelog of BIOS .EXEs, add these info at this page, thanks.

How to upgrade?

NOTE: HP is very Linux friendly with servers, but is not than friendly with Linux desktop users and more if you buy a HP's machine and have to upgrade your BIOS, life's casualities. You have to upgrade BIOS over Windows OS if you does not want lose your warranty. Exist one alternate method Windowsless but could be break your machine. I don't think you do it with these security risk. (It's stupid say "Compatible with Ubuntu seem all Linux distro... mistake of all companies say Ubuntu = Linux, of course..., but you cannot upgrade it on your Linux distro...)

You have to download .EXE installer to flash correctly your BIOS with Windows installed on your machine to do perfectly this. Please, connect your battery with 30% charged to avoid "electricity cuts" and connect into AC too. So you can continue with process with AC although happens electricity cuts, because you have a battery protect flashing BIOS process. After this you can remove your battery and let's work, or inverse.

PLEASE: Do not use WINE for this process, you can BROKE your machine or simply does not work.

  1. - Download F.23 BIOS update from here (Windows 7 version) on your PC.
  2. - Closes all applications, secondary processes does not needed (always you know) to perform BIOS upgrade.
  3. - Run s*.EXE, follow steps, when end upgrade your laptop will be reboot.
  4. - If all was OK, you have successfully upgraded.

How to install Fedora?

If you do not have Fedora 18 installed already on your PC, you only have to mark as disabled "Legacy" option on your BIOS setup utility, insert DVD/CD/USB and boot without any trouble, install Fedora...blabla. When setup its finished, all its ok.

NOTE: When secure boot its enabled, you can not have programs compiled by you, should get more info about tools pesign & shim to "avoid" this Secureboot#References.

I want use compiled programs by me or others, use akmod-catalyst without do more efforts

Go to BIOS, check enabled on "Legacy" menu then, restart. That's all!
